Abstract:
It took Mansour Abbas, the head of the southern branch of the Islamic Movement’s United Arab List party(Ra’am), to show that Mahmoud Abbas has no ideological resolve or intentions to recognize the Jewish state and make genuine peace with it.
Recent months have seen a steep rise in the use of live fire in the
Palestinian cities in the West Bank against IDF forces, as well as in the
number of shooting incidents and other attacks. Behind the shootings
are primarily young Palestinians, including Fatah operatives, and this
phenomenon reflects the chaos within the Palestinian Authority. The
Israeli security response, which focuses on counter-terrorism and
widespread arrests of suspects, generates a self-sustaining cycle of
escalation and heightens the motivation among young Palestinians to
enlist in the fight against the Israeli security forces. The danger is that
as a result of the chaos, the PA will cease to function as a responsible,
stable, and effective entity that encourages calm and is an
authoritative address for communication with Israel. To curb this
trend and give the PA an opportunity (perhaps its last) to regain
control of the northern West Bank and stop the deterioration,
reconstruction measures should be pursued vis-à-vis the Palestinian
Authority, and external collaboration and support should be recruited
for the effort, primarily from Jordan and the Gulf states.
The Palestinian Authority leadership seeks to ease the tensions between the PA and the UAE and Bahrain – tensions that escalated after the Abraham Accords were signed. Should Israel be concerned about the expected rapprochement, or should it rather try to take advantage of the opportunities that might ensue?

Abstract:
The next Israeli government would be well-advised to come-up with its own proposals for improving the life of Palestinians, both to further improve its own regional standing and to meet (some of the) administration’s expectations, in dialogue and partnership.

This study presents an important opportunity to fill a gap in knowledge by offering a critical understanding of the state of youth wellbeing in the Occupied Palestinian Territory through a comprehensive interdisciplinary and multi-level approach. By combining the economic, political and socio-cultural spheres and a macro (policy/institutional), meso (organizational) and micro (individual) level analysis, we can explore the root causes and complex dynamics of the processes of youth exclusion and inclusion from the labour market and civic/political life, while investigating the potentially transformative effect of youth agency.
The study analyses wellbeing and gender relations for their importance, particularly in the context of the OPT, where youth are especially vulnerable and where wellbeing is threatened.
